Those who come to Larinho and walk through its streets come across a large house, a former agro-industrial and commercial unit dating back to the mid-19th century.
Casa Dr. Ramiro Salgado, this carefully restored building, offers all the conditions for immersing yourself in the life and culture of Trás-os-Montes, discovering the valuable memories of the local people and the Cordeiro Salgado family, and experiencing authentic rural life in one of Portugal's most traditional regions.
Welcome to the Dr Ramiro Salgado House/Museum
Casa Dr. Ramiro Salgado, known as Casa Grande, is located in the parish of Larinho, in Torre de Moncorvo, Bragança district, in the heart of the Upper Douro.
Casa Dr. Ramiro Salgado has 5 bedrooms, 2 studios, a swimming pool, olive oil and wine presses, a library and a unique leisure area at the top of the building. Ideal for those looking to experience the Transmontano environment.
Known as Casa Grande, this mid-19th century building, now restored, evokes the history of the hard-working and talented people who lived in it: the Cordeiro Salgado family.
Honoured by a dynamic and cultured man, the people of this remote part of Trás-os-Montes renamed it Casa Dr Ramiro Salgado.
As you pass through its gates and visit its museologically preserved wine presses, you can imagine a day-to-day life characterised by the hustle and bustle of the land's produce, zealously processed by local people.
And at all times, contemplating an almost mystical landscape, you can observe the almond trees brushed with colour, the wrinkles of the olive trees, which whisper in the summer afternoons of the Terra Quente, silently begging for a drop of water, and exhale the perfume of the flowering broom, admire the rugged landscape, interspersed with austere granite cliffs, and be surprised by the abundance of iron ore, the unique wealth of this region of Moncorvense, while tasting a unique regional wine and savouring slices of bread with olive oil. You can also, in various places, watch the sun kiss the mountains, hide beyond the crystal-clear waters of the River Sabor that touches the Douro, or observe the clear, starry sky from the highest point of the house.
This small village, like the whole of the north-east of Trás-os-Montes, isolated and forgotten by political power and far from progress, has remained genuine almost to the present day.
